IBM & Ovum Health answer fertility questions with AI

Fertility care provider Ovum Health gives families fertility information using a chat and scheduling tools, supported by IBM watsonx Assistant

For those struggling with infertility, there is a lot of misinformation to wade through towards the truth. Ovum Health has partnered with IBM, which is a master at using AI to manage web and mobile app-based chats and scheduling solutions.

Together, IBM and Ovum Health have built a platform which offers medical software, clinical decision support, advanced lab testing and analytics for a ‘personalised approach to a healthy pregnancy’.

IBM’s AI supports a healthy pregnancy

Alice Crisci, CEO at Ovum Health, understands health challenges. She is a cancer survivor and a Mother to a fertility preservation miracle. She built MedAnswers and its telemedicine spinout, Ovum Health, in an attempt to prevent misinformation, especially surrounding pre-pregnancy, prenatal and postnatal healthcare.

Crisci spoke exclusively with Healthcare Digital about the role of AI in healthcare.

"To meet the growing demand of families who need both accurate healthcare answers and access to insurance-backed, fertility telehealth, Ovum partnered with IBM to embed IBM watsonx Assistant into the free FertilityAnswers mobile platform,” said Crisci. “We can now deliver clinically-validated, empathetic content to as many people who need it with the power of enterprise AI."

The IBM-powered bot has a content library of 18,000 user-generated questions, vetted by board-certified healthcare professionals led by Ovum, the bots answer all manner of fertility questions.

Dialexa's Craig Walker explores revolutionising healthcare with generative AI

The IBM ecosystem is vast and IBM also acquired digital product engineering firm DialexaCraig Walker, a partner, is focused on creating disruptive digital product solutions for the life science and healthcare markets, across hospital systems, pharma companies and physician practices to biomedical research groups. He spoke exclusively with Healthcare Digital to discuss the impact of AI on patient data, digital healthcare trends and software as a medical device (SaMD).

“The impact of generative AI on healthcare will continue to be top-of-mind for the healthcare industry as companies and health systems work to better understand how the new technology will drive value and move out of the hype cycle,” he said. “For example, companies in the MedTech space may find themselves using generative AI to enhance almost every part of their business, including research and development and marketing and sales. In the research and development process specifically, generative AI may be able to reduce the time spent on clinical trial reporting as well as regulatory filing. We anticipate that generative AI will also be used to improve the usability of electronic health records.”
