Lifetime of Achievement: Tom Mottlau

Tom Mottlau Has Led LG’s Healthcare Technology for Two Decades. Now, LG's Smart Hospital Televisions are Transforming the way Hospitals Care for Patients

Tom Mottlau, LG Business Solutions USA’s Healthcare Director has spent over 20 years selling, developing and consulting on technology in the healthcare space, working closely with the country's top patient engagement providers and patient room integrators.

He’s been with LG since the Zenith days (1999) and started on the consumer side of the business as Regional Product Training Manager, before transitioning to B2B. A position opened up in LG’s commercial displays business in 2000 and by 2001, he was supporting the sale of analog CRTs in hospitals across the south. At one point, he loaded displays in the back of a pickup and drove cross country stopping at rural hospitals in roadshow fashion. In 2007, Mottlau was promoted to National Account Manager for Healthcare and finally in 2018, Director of Healthcare Sales.

During this time, Mottlau has won several awards for his contributions to LG. In 2002, he was issued with the Outstanding Achievement Award, Best Profit Performer Award in 2015 and Manager of the Year in 2020.

In March 2021, Mottlau won ‘Over 100% Achiever for 2020’.

“The pandemic presented many challenges to achieving sales goals,” Mottlau explains. “A special ‘Over 100% Achiever Award’ was presented to the teams that met and surpassed their annual goals, despite the challenges of 2020.”

Building LG’s Smart Hospital TVs to improve patient care

The LG Business Solutions division within LG Electronics USA, Inc. serves commercial display customers in the U.S. healthcare, lodging and hospitality, digital signage, systems integration, education, government and industrial markets. Based in Lincolnshire, Illinois, with its dedicated engineering and customer support team, LG Business Solutions USA delivers business-to-business technology solutions tailored to the particular needs of business environments.

“LG is a longtime leading provider of hospital TVs in the industry and we offer several smart hospital TV models ranging from 15- to 75-inches, to meet a variety of hospital and healthcare facility needs,” said Mottlau. “These smart hospital TVs are designed to simplify operations and system design, with LG’s Pro:Centric™ Smart and Pro:Idiom™ platforms providing easy access to streaming services for entertainment and broad support for video collaboration options. LG’s Pro:Centric platform allows healthcare facilities and technology integrators to manage the TVs remotely over IP and to create customised interfaces using simple on-board editing tools.”

LGs reliable and innovative hospital-grade TVs are designed with features that enable customised patient care, while meeting rigorous UL safety standards applicable to products used in hospital settings.

“LG hospital TVs are UL-certified for use in healthcare facilities to give hospitals peace of mind so healthcare workers can focus on patient care,” he said.

LG and Aceso Revolutionise Healthcare Displays with Smart Hospital TVs and Pane of Glass™ Platform

LGs collaboration with digital software company Aceso came naturally.

“LG’s line of Smart Hospital TVs have powerful computing capabilities, making them the perfect blank canvas to host Aceso’s new Pane of Glass™ platform. With this collaboration, we’re able to deliver customisable content digitally in patient rooms, simplifying system design and lowering costs.”

Running Aceso’s platform on our Smart Hospital TVs eliminates the need for additional hardware, making patient information and entertainment displays universally accessible and seamless.

“Hospital staff are able to mount the TVs virtually anywhere with a power outlet and connect to the network wirelessly or through a hard-wire connection if preferred.”

This is delivering customisable and personalised content to digital healthcare displays, as Aceso's platform aggregates data from various sources, integrating virtual care and remote monitoring services to create a user-friendly experience for patients and clinicians.

“This information is displayed on LG’s Smart Hospital TVs, where it provides personalised views of patient-specific information, entertainment, education and more.”

LG has launched initiatives in telehealth and xpanded its display offering to patient engagement boards.

“Over the next 12 months, we look to further expand our offerings in the patient room with hospital-grade products and outside of the patient room with signage, DVLED and robot offerings.”
