Costa Rica is becoming one of the most popular emerging destinations for medical tourism, offering low cost but high quality medical care.

Many of the elite private hospitals in this South American country have been accredited by North American medical facilities and the doctors and nurses on staff have been trained in Westernised countries. Furthermore, the country is receiving governmental support to provide the latest medical equipment and training to pursue this form of medical service.

Treatments such as cosmetic surgery, transplants and dental surgery are currently available in Costa Rica and the provision of such services is up to par with many first world service providers at a much lower cost, enabling patients to benefit from top-notch care and facilities.

The added feature for medical tourists travelling to Costa Rica is the recuperative aspect of the medical tourism package. Normally, patients would be provided with several days of post-operative care in the hospital before returning home for recovery. However, choosing a medical tourism package to Costa Rica provides post-surgery care and attention in a five star setting and after receiving treatment patients are looked after by trained medical staff until a full recovery has been achieved.

Having required or elective surgery in a home country is not the only option available to patients these days and the development of the medical tourism industry has provided a range of other treatment options to all. As financial restraints tighten, the quest for affordable, high quality medical care is fuelling the growth of the medical tourism sector, not only in Costa Rica but across the world too.
