Biggest restaurant chain McDonald’s Corp will start posting calorie information on menu boards at its U.S. stores next week as it works to lessen the criticism that its food leads to obesity.

The restaurant chain will test healthier items like the egg-white breakfast sandwiches, 350 calorie sweet chili chicken wraps and produce more side items to add to its menu in 2013.

It will also list calorie counts on menus inside restaurants and at drive-through windows.

McDonald’s is also making efforts to improve the nutrition and disclose more about its food being criticized for selling unhealthy items.  In U.S., more than one-third of adults and about 17% of children are considered obese.

The restaurant chain has recently touted a Favourites Under 400 calories menu that includes Filet-O-Fish sandwich, Egg McMuffin and medium fries, for the customers in U.S. The burger maker will also add grilled chicken McNuggets and low-fat dairy items to its menu. The franchisees of McDonald’s who own about 90% of the stores in U.S., will be responsible for the cost of adding calorie counts to menu boards, the company said.

McDonald’s Corporation is the world’s largest chain of hamburger fast food restaurants. It sells hamburgers, cheeseburgers, chicken, French fries, breakfast items, soft drinks, milkshakes and desserts.
