Pfizer has linked up with the government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to improve awareness around infectious diseases.

The joint initiative aims to highlight how such disease – one of the leading causes of deaths worldwide - can be prevented and combated while also looking at promoting vaccination programs.

Pfizer Gulf Chairman Dr. Mohammad Fawzi was present at the signing of the agreement alongside Dr. Mohamed Salim Al Olama, Undersecretary of the UAE Ministry of Health & Prevention and Dr. Hussein Abdul Rahman Al-Rand, Assistant Undersecretary for Health Centers and Clinics.

The scope of the agreement also covers ‘medical professional training as an effective strategy to identify and implement preventive measures and minimize risk exposure’.

This news comes soon after Memorandum of Understanding was signed with Sanofi to implement measures around the prevention of non-communicable diseases in the country.

The agreements are part of the UAE’s wider strategy to create an industry-leading health system.

They are focusing their efforts in four main areas: leadership and governance; risk factor prevention and reduction; surveillance, monitoring, and evaluation; and scientific research and monitoring of diseases.

“Collaborative public-private partnerships are critical to achieving our healthcare goals and securing the future of the country,” said Dr. Al-Rand.
